Ba Power is full of mesmerizing songs and razor-sharp riffs. Bassekou Kouyate is one of the giants of Malian music and his masterful ngoni playing has reached an afro-rock intensity. Distortion and wah wah and propulsive rhythms are now the defining backbone of his songs. Guests include trumpeter Jon Hassell (Brian Eno, Talking Heads), Malian blues giant Samba Toure and drummer Dave Smith (Robert Plant’s Sensational Space Shifters, JuJu).
